ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

Kährs Oy operates in accordance with the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standard.

The system covers the following scope: Floor coverings products, development and technologies process, manufacturing process, support activities/processes to former processes.

Best emissions class: M1

Upofloor products are ecologically sustainable and friendly for both humans and the environment over their entire lifespan. Our floor coverings are classified as M1, the best class of construction materials in terms of emissions.

The Finnish emissions classification of construction materials promotes the development and use of low-emissions construction materials. To guarantee the quality of indoor air, emissions must be considered in all phases of design, manufacturing and usage. The construction material classification is granted by the Building Information Foundation RTS (Finland).

Leed and FloorScore®

The LEED certification of premises is based on an evaluation model defined by the non-profit-organization Green Building Council, which also grants the certification. Premises are evaluated according to the environmental loads of its location, water usage, energy efficiency, use of materials and indoor conditions.

LEED certification is granted by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), an independent industry organization.

FloorScore® is a comprehensive U.S. certification system for floor coverings that is based on the LEED point system. Zero, Xpression and Quartz tiles have passed the FloorScore® test for environmental approval. To be granted FloorScore® certification a product must pass demanding emissions tests to ensure that the product does not release any compounds that are detrimental to the quality of indoor air. Regular factory audits are also required.

Environmental Product Declaration

EPD is an abbreviation for Environmental Product Declaration. An EPD describes building materials, construction products, or building components in terms of their environmental impact, based on life cycle assessments, as well as on their functional and technical characteristics. This quantitative, objective, and verified information covers the entire life cycle of the building product. EPDs thus constitute an important basis for assessing building sustainability.

EPDs facilitate not only life cycle and building assessments, but are also an aid to integral planning. As early as in the design phase, EPDs allow architects and planners to compare different components, construction methods, and options, and select the ideal combination of construction products for the specific building in question.
